Recently my dishwasher abruptly stopped working after getting really overheated and melting some of my dishes. We decided it wasn’t worth repairing, so began the search for a new one. After some problems with the order and its very late arrival, I’m so very thankful for dishwashers.

During that experience, I was reminded that I should share how I got my new good quality dishwasher for a great price, so you can too! And, of course, these tips will work for any large appliance.

Decide Which Features You Must Have and Which Ones You Wouldn’t Use

Before you buy I recommend going to several stores and looking at the different styles, colors, and features that are available. Then you can research your favorites further online.

  • Remember, the fewer features the lower the cost.
  • Consider different colors: stainless tends to be more expensive than white and black

Price Check at Multiple Stores

The initial price is usually about the same at most stores, but be sure to check the cost of shipping, delivery, and additional warranty. These extra costs can make a big difference in the final total.

Free Shipping

If a store offers free shipping and delivery to your home, it can save you time, hassle, and money.

Don’t Skimp on Warranty

You should consider purchasing an extended warranty, if available, if you plan to use the appliance for more than a year. Unless, of course, you can do repairs yourself, if necessary.

Ask About Refurbished or Blemished Appliances

These appliances usually cost substantially less. So they are worth considering if you can find one that fits your needs.

Wait for Big Sales

Most stores have sales around the holidays. The best ones for appliances are usually Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Black Friday sales. Also, the latest appliances usually come out around September or October, which means the older appliances will probably be discounted around this time.

Order Online Through a Rebate or Cash Back Site

Rebate sites usually give between 1 and 10 percent back on purchases through their website. For most small purchases this amount doesn’t seem like much, but with a large purchase, it can save you a lot. Make sure to check multiple sites and stores to find the highest percentage. Watch for double cash back days to save even more!

Use a Cashback Credit Card

As long as you can pay the card off in full each month, using a cash back credit card will give you a little more back from your purchase.

Here are several good cash back credit cards:

Ask for Compensation for Inconveniences

If there is a problem with the order or it isn’t delivered on time, call the store and ask if they can if they can give you a discount for your trouble. My dishwasher was delivered two weeks late and when I called they sent me a $50 gift card for the inconvenience. It never hurts to ask.

Install it Yourself

If you’re physically able and have the right tools, you can save money by installing the appliance yourself. If you’ve never done it before there are plenty of how-to videos on YouTube plus installation instructions that come with the appliance.
